Imperfect Seed
By Carrol Kay Mendelson

The seed is planted, nourished, kept
Warm; protected, and alas born.
Then the storm strikes, it destroys then
Drifts out to sea; which means the sun
Will shine and you will see the light
Before the dawn.

How can we help the imperfect seed? To
Discard him? Hide him? No,
But to care, teach, shelter, and love him.
Help him to see the sunshine instead of
The darkness; and teach him to walk in
The light of day, with his head held high
And his spirit bright.

Maybe then, and only then the imperfect
Will survive.
